ABOUT ME
Hi, I’m Paxton DeVault — a photographer, storyteller, and soon-to-be UNO graduate with a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism and Media Communications, and a minor in Creative Writing!
Between working three jobs and completing my internship, photography has always been my creative outlet and passion. I started taking photos during my sophomore year of high school and launched my business that same year. Since then, I’ve captured everything from families and seniors to weddings and significant events, as well as sports and nature.
I’ve even had the opportunity to photograph presidential rallies for candidates like Donald Trump, Joe Biden, Pete Buttigieg, Bernie Sanders, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and Elizabeth Warren.
My work has been recognized with several awards, including first and second place, and honorable mention in the Iowa High School Press Association’s 2019 Spring Newspaper Awards for my news photo “I Can’t Hear You”.
I was also named a Key Staffer by The Daily Nonpareil, honored by the Optimist Club of Council Bluffs, and had my article “Advice to a High Schooler” published in The Write Touch Magazine.
Outside of school, work, and photography, I love going to concerts, traveling whenever I can, cheering on the Pittsburgh Steelers, and rewatching Friends when football season’s over.

Since 2021, I’ve been attending the University of Nebraska at Omaha, where I’ve had the opportunity to grow not only as a photographer but also as a multimedia journalist. As part of UNO’s student newscast, The Omaha News, I’ve worked both behind and in front of the camera, gaining experience in producing, reporting, and green screen studio work.
Through this hands-on environment, I’ve learned how to tell stories visually and journalistically—from covering real community issues to meeting strict newsroom deadlines and collaborating with a production team.
As I prepare to graduate, my goal is to begin a career in photojournalism where I can continue capturing real moments, meaningful stories, and the world as it unfolds through my lens.
